2017 Market Trends!
As always the annual spring High Point Furniture Market provides a wonderful opportunity to see what the latest style and trends will be as we move into fall and beginning of next year. We packed our bags and headed to this year's market recently in anticipation of learning more about upcoming trends as well as finding unique pieces to offer the St. Petersburg market. After a walking filled two days of market and exploring hundreds of vendor offerings, here are what we identified as the top style trends for the next year.
Gray, gray, and more gray. Gray was definitely the popular color at this years market. Just about every showroom had a shade of gray from dark to light. Not only was this evident in the wall color selections, but also a lot of the new furniture offerings. Gray washed tones again from light to dark were popular on furniture offerings. Bedroom, dining, occasional tables, and entertainment centers all offered a generous helping of gray toned introductions.
Upholstered headboards. That's right - just about everyone is now offering a generous selection of upholstered headboards that were a common theme in just about every showroom offering bedroom pieces. Lighter colors such as cream and light gray were popular as a warm contrast to the darker gray walls common in most displays.
Slip cover sofas. Slip cover sofas clearly made a statement in many showrooms. Lighter color fabric options provided a soft beach feel to sofa's and again played well with the darker gray walls and occasional tables. Not only is this style aesthetically attractive, but in most cases it provides a utilitarian purpose in that many of the coverings could be removed and washed or changed out all together to provide multiple seasonal styles. Overall the slip cover look was presented with a casual feel but sophisticated look with complementing colors and furnishings.
Barns style sliding doors. The barn style door trend will continues through 2017 and into 2018. This timeless style was evident throughout many showrooms where we saw significantly more furniture options with sliding door mechanisms. Who doesn't love these?
Geometric shapes. Geometric shapes on furniture, cabinet doors, fabrics, and rugs was another popular theme.
Industrial / Rustic. The industrial and rustic themes continue to be popular style and looks to remain that way well through 2018 as offerings in this style continue to increase. Furniture and lighting providing a light industrial look were prominent in many showrooms with a lot of edison lightbulbs on industrial style lighting. We also saw a lot of wood and metal mixed pieces where the wood provides a warming feel to the harder industrial metal components of the pieces.
Abstract art. Abstract art was a prime compliment to many of the vignettes within the market showrooms. Black and white abstract paintings provided a bold sophisticated look while other abstract pieces brought a strong sense of color to the room.
