Now in the Gallery: Local Artist Laurie Ross

On 18th May 2017

One of the best parts about living in St.Pete is the thriving art scene. From Chihuly to Dali and all seven arts district, it’s almost impossible to not rub elbows with an artist. Local art doesn’t just provide a unique and eclectic touch to your living space. It boosts the city’s economy and helps us build a sense of community.

That’s why at Tampa Bay Furnishings, we’re proud to host the work of local artists in our store for you to take home.

Meet Laurie Ross

Over the past 30 years, Laurie Ross has developed a body of work in the medium of photography. In 2013, she became more recognized with her book, Shop Dogs: A Photo Essay on Dogs that Go to Work. The book is a collection of various canines around St. Pete whose owners take them to their offices, stores, and warehouses.

Much of Ross’s work revolves around pets, the outdoors, portraits, and human interest. Her uncanny eye for finding photos is highlighted through her nature shots. In some of her work, you might even be able to spot familiar St.Pete sights and events.

Ross has had work featured at the Morean Center of the Arts, the St. Petersburg LGBT Welcome Center, St. Pete City Hall and other venues around Tampa Bay. Some of her portraits were also featured on President Barack Obama’s White House website.

Local art isn’t just about the “awe-factor.” It’‘s vital for keeping St. Pete a thriving and great place to live. At Tampa Bay Furnishings, we’ll be featuring Laurie Ross’ art in our showroom. She will also be be accepting commissions as well.

Many of her photos are displayed through canvas and metal printing. On top of having a few of her pieces on display, we also have Shop Dogs available, which is a great coffee table book, or gift for pet lovers.
